Please do not email me asking me to enroll you or your family members. I AM NOT in charge of enrolling anyone to any tribe. You must prepare your documents (see below) and submit your items to the specific tribe.
To be enrolled in any Cherokee Tribe one has to provide proof of Cherokee ancestry. The first step is to create a genealogy chart showing a direct line to a Cherokee ancestor. The second step is to have documentation proving the ancestor is Cherokee. There are many types of official documents proving Cherokee ancestry...census records, military records, land allotments, rolls, etc. Do not be discouraged if a census record shows your relative, who you know to be Cherokee, as being white. Please go to Genocide of the American Indian page to read about how census takers were told to record Native Americans. Please do your research and chart before applying for enrollment. This is a crucial first step to enrollment and have documentation to back up your genealogy claims.
Besides having documentation and genealogy, each tribe has their own requirements. Please read below each tribes requirements to see where you might be able to apply. There are 3 Federally Recognized Cherokee Tribes and 7 legitimate Cherokee State Recognized Tribes.
***If you see any information that is incorrect or information that needs to be added or updated, please feel free to contact me, Weeya Calif, via the green contact button at the top of this page.***
